Photoperiod

Daily lighting duration

Definition

Photoperiod is the daily duration of full-intensity lighting in an aquarium.

Practical use

Reef SPS/anemones: 8-10 hours full intensity, with 1-2 hour ramp up + ramp down. LPS: 8-10 hours moderate. Soft coral: 10-12 hours moderate. Planted FW: 8-10 hours. Excessive photoperiod drives algae before driving coral growth.
