Hyposalinity
Reduced-salinity treatmentDefinition
Hyposalinity is the practice of dropping saltwater tank salinity from 1.025 SG to 1.009 SG over 48 hours and holding for 30+ days as a parasite treatment.
Practical use
Effective for marine ich (Cryptocaryon) but NOT for velvet (Amyloodinium survives low salinity). Stressful on fish. Not safe for coral or invertebrates. Use only in a fishless quarantine.
